In Whom Do You Depend?
First, the COVID-19 pandemic . . . now, in our area, a wildfire. Both quite devastating to people in the middle of their greatest investments: their lives and their homes—the very place they should feel safe! It’s all been very surreal, hasn’t it? Especially yesterday.
A number of our Chapel folks were affected by the wildfire that spread quickly with the wind. While they are safe now, it was a deeply concerning, worrisome time. Questions arose: What do you do when things are so out of control, you have to run? When the frustrations grow, and you simply have no clue as to what to do?
The truth is, we do have a choice! We can allow dire circumstances to define us or we can ask the Lord God to teach us in the middle of the fire and let that fire refine us. How will we respond?
“How enriched are they who find their strength in the Lord; within their hearts are the highways of holiness! Even when their paths wind through the dark valley of tears, they dig deep to find a pleasant pool where others find only pain. He gives to them a brook of blessing filled from the rain of an outpouring. They grow stronger and stronger with every step forward.” Psalm 84:5–7
Let’s pray for each other that we would refuse to let difficult situations limit and divert our trust in Christ. By following Jesus, we are:
- On the Highway to Holiness, so everything that happens resides in God’s hands.
- In the dark valleys of tears, we need not be afraid, but rejoice in the presence of our Savior!
- Where others get depressed and find pain, we can “soar on eagles’ wings” in our Heavenly Father’s steadfast love and faithfulness.
- We can listen for, watch, and experience the outpouring of His blessing as we truly depend on Him.
Remember, Jesus Christ, by His grace and mercy, made it clear:
“If you abide in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; Apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
As we navigate the insanity of these times, let’s encourage one another, lift each other up, and trust our Savior, Jesus Christ, together. And we will grow stronger and stronger every day, every minute as we put our lives in His hands! Don’t forget:
“My fellow believers, when it seems as though you are facing nothing but difficulties, see it as an invaluable opportunity to experience the greatest JOY that you can! For you know that when your faith is tested, it stirs up power within you to endure all things.” James 1:2–3 —The Passion Translation
Blessings in Christ Jesus,
