Hurricane Michael

Hurricane Michael

Today, the weather is cool, bright and sunny – belying the fact that a few miles east of here, people are fighting for their very lives.
I find myself emotional, thankful, frustrated, saddened, and even full of Joy – all at once.
Thankful we didn’t face the brunt of Hurricane Michael… saddened by the reality of people losing everything they owned. And today, after the storm has passed on, there are people in our area, at the same time enjoying the beauty of a South Walton day on the beach… and people east of here doing their best to just survive.
Just east there are 1st responders doing their best in Search and Rescue operations – hoping to find anyone trapped by the storm’s destruction. I watch the helicopters flying back and forth taking the injured to hospitals west of here, praying for each flight and the ones inside.

On Sunday, October 14th at 10 a.m., the Chapel conducted a Special Service. We had a time of thanksgiving, gathering to listen together for God’s Voice and encouragement. Here’s is a video of this service

In this sobering time of stark realities, I find myself most grateful for my Savior, Jesus Christ, who stood against storms in nature and those in our own souls and did not, has not in His Almighty Love deserted us! And I am comforted by the Words of Psalm 23 which apply so well to circumstances – dire or joyous:

“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside the still, quiet waters,
He restores my soul.
He guides me down the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.
Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemy.
You anoint my head with oil – my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

This day is the time to Love, Listen, Respond wisely when the Holy Spirit says “GO!” and PRAY:
“O Lord, my Lord – help me to listen to Your Voice and choose MERCY.”

God Bless You and Yours,
Pastor Gary
