Happy Birthday America!
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!”
When I consider the state of our nation, I realize how easy it would be to dwell on the negative, to get angry, depressed, and fearful. But – I WILL NOT GO THERE! Truth is, we, on our 244th birthday, have many wonderful opportunities before us:
- We can celebrate with great JOY our freedom!
- We can stand together for Justice and Renewal
- We can turn our eyes upon Jesus, the One who loves us outrageously
- We can take an honest inventory: “Does my Life exhibit Grace, Hope, Mercy, Truth?”
- We can seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness with open hearts together!
Jesus taught in Matthew 22:37-39, the path of Grace and Freedom:
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest Commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
This greatest Commandment of Grace tells us of the genuine, powerful, life-changing free gift of LOVE we receive as we follow Jesus Christ and live His commands teaching us that:
-ALL of our “neighbors” are made in God’s Image and ALL are of Great Value to our Lord
-True Justice begins with LOVE flowing from the depths of our souls onto others
-Open honesty about our sins and mistakes can be safely shared with others
-Transformation grows with God’s LOVE flowing in and out of us – personally and to our Nation.
This Love that Christ shares is no “touchy-feely”, warm and fuzzy emotion. This Love is action – this Love is refreshing and renewing – this Love is forgiving and trustworthy – and this Love is Restorative, teaching us that we can, in Christ, soar on Eagles’ wings, loving one another regardless of our failures and circumstances!
“None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable – absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.”
Romans 8:37-39 – The Message
May your “4th of July” celebration be a new beginning of the greatest American birthday ever as we together fix our eyes on Jesus Christ – the One True Author and Perfecter of our Faith!
